MY STORY

Picture

Swee Lin Lim

In 2001, I had just graduated from a top US business school and had got into the management consulting firm that I had dreamed about.  I had a good job, I was working with people whom I really respected and admired, and enjoyed helping clients.  I soon married, bought a house and had a child.  I thought I had everything going for me.

The shocking discovery
It started harmlessly enough ---  I noticed a quirk in my spelling in 2009.  After making an appointment to discuss this with a neurologist, I soon found myself having an MRI scan of my brain.  A few minutes later, I glanced over and saw the technician and the neurologist having slightly longer words with each other.  What I also remember is the look on the technician’s face --- that things were not entirely “normal”.  So, what did they (and other neurologists) concur?

#1.  At the time, I was 38 years old but I had signs of aging akin to a 60 year old’s brain.  What were the signs of aging? Dying cells (white flairs) and brain shrinkage
#2.  Given how unusual this was, it was best that I complete a series of additional tests to rule out other illnesses
#3.  Annual tests or check-ups to rule out further (rapid) deterioration were also recommended

At the time, I was beyond stunned.  As a professional and mother/care-giver, I rely every single day on my brain to help me think, plan, prioritize and solve problems. I immediately committed to learn and do everything I could to prevent further aging of my brain.

What did I learn about the inter-related workings of the brain, the mind and the body?
  • That the brain is such a brilliant and complex organ.
  • That with neuroplasticity, bad habits can be unlearned and new better habits can be learned quickly.
  • That what you eat and drink really does impact your brain cells and the mind’s function both in the immediate term and in the long run.
  • That how you move, sleep, cope with stress massively impacts how your brain repairs itself everyday.
  • That the quality of your relationships at work and at home further impact your brain’s horsepower and productivity.

So, why am I passionate about promoting health and happiness?
This goes way beyond vanity --- fitting into that little black dress for a special occasion, or developing a lean trim waist.  This really is about giving the mind and the body everything needed to replenish and thrive.  Along the way, I have learned so much more that I would like to share with you.

When these easy habits involving health and happiness are applied,  they can massively raise your productivity and concentration.  Sick days will become incredibly rare.  The quality and trust levels of your relationships with people, including clients will also improve significantly.

If you would like to find out more about raising your productivity, concentration, focus, energy, quality of trust and having radiating good health, please contact me for a free consultation at sweelin@figandblossom.com.
